Palpebral conjunctiva hyperemia

Hyperemia - Palpebral Conjunctiva

Symptoms

  • Typically none. May have some level of mild discomfort if associated with other lid changes

Signs

  • Engorgement of palpebral blood vessels observed on lid eversion
  • Small papillae may also be observed

Etiology

  • Low grade inflammation of palpebral conjunctiva
  • Often a precursor to CLPC
  • May be a response to care regimen or deposition on contact lens

Prevalence

  • Mild degrees are common. Severe degrees are infrequent

Differential Diagnosis

Management

  • Consider changing solution from preserved multipurpose solution to peroxide based solutions
  • Refit with lenses of lower modulus and improved surface wettability
  • Reinforce compliance with lens replacement interval, maintenance and wearing time
