Hyperemia - Interpalpebral

Symptoms

  • None to sensation of dryness

Signs

  • Hyperemia of the conjunctiva in the interpalpebral region

Etiology

  • Allergic, mechanical, or combination reaction of superior conjunctival tarsal plate
  • More common in soft than GP lens wear
  • Can be related to solution sensitivity to preservatives

Prevalence

  • Occasional

Differential Diagnosis

Management

  • Reduce wearing time if excessive
  • Change to SiHy lenses (low water content/low dehydration)
  • Counsel on adverse environments (e.g. air conditioning, computer use etc.)
  • Try rewetting drops
  • Topical antibiotics if associated with obvious discharge
